FAQs: Small Wedding Venues in Virginia

What is an Intimate Wedding Venue?

Small wedding venues create a thoughtfully designed space that fosters an intimate vibe and genuine connection among guests.

Typically ranging from 2 to 75 people, these micro wedding venues in Virginia prioritize ambiance, affordability, comfort, and exclusivity, creating an environment where every guest feels like a special part of the celebration. Ultimately, regardless of the location or decor preference, the goal of an intimate wedding venue is to offer a space that reflects the couple’s personality and unique love story.

With fewer guests, couples can allocate their budget towards other parts of the wedding day—such as an upgraded meal experience, gorgeous florals, or even a destination micro wedding in a bucket list location. Undoubtedly, the biggest advantage of choosing a small wedding venue is the ability to focus on quality over quantity.

How Much is a Small Wedding Venue in Virginia?

The average cost of a wedding in Virginia is about $32,000, but keep in mind that average is for all wedding sizes. Venue costs are usually the biggest part of the budget, but if you go small, you can save big.

The typical cost of small wedding venues in Virginia varies based on factors such as location, amenities, and the time of the year. Based on what I've seen in my research, on average, small wedding venue prices in Virginia range from $5,000 to $15,000.

Here are a few tips to save more when choosing a small wedding venue in Virginia:

  • Get married on a weekday or choose a Sunday brunch
  • Consider off-season months like January or February

Affordable Small Wedding Venues in Virginia

One of my top recommendations for affordable wedding venues no matter where you’re getting married is to choose a public space like a local park, botanic garden, or State or National Park for your ceremony and couple it with an amazing restaurant or Airbnb for your reception. This is a great way to get a cheap or even free outdoor or mountain wedding venue without breaking the bank!

I always like to disclaimer this section with a reminder to check local regulations, acquire necessary permits, and respect the land while you’re there. Partnering with a local photographer or wedding planner who has experience in these spaces will make your planning process easier.

Here are a few I found, and if your area isn’t listed, be sure to check out our guide to finding unique wedding venues for my top tips on finding places like these (linked at the top of the blog).

Airbnb and VRBO Wedding Venues in Virginia

When it comes to Airbnb and VRBO wedding venues, Vriginia has a lot due to the abundance of lakes and resort towns. I always recommend checking VRBO first for wedding venues because their event policy is much more generous than Airbnb’s. Airbnb wedding venues can be found, but are usually best suited for elopements and tiny weddings with just a few guests. Here are a few solid choices for your micro wedding or elopement. Check out our full list of VRBO and Airbnb wedding venues in Michigan here.
