If you’ve been following along, you’ll know that one of our favorite topics is wedding venues! The options are endless when it comes to where you can be married and have a reception—especially when you have a tiny guest list.
But, you wonder…how can I find these unique places? Looking at typical wedding directories reveals nothing more than the big wedding venues. We've been there. Just like you, we knew there were more interesting venues out there than what we were finding on the big wedding directory sites. We spent countless hours pouring over the internet until we finally found the perfect venue for our micro wedding.
But not to worry, we're here to make sure you don’t have that experience. We’re revealing the top 5 ways to find unique wedding venues! Spoiler alert—our wedding directory is one.
Find Your Unique Wedding Venue
Private home rentals
- VRBO
- Vacasa
- Airbnb—a number of years ago Airbnb restricted events on the spaces listed on their site. While it might still be possible to find something here, you will likely have better luck searching somewhere else.

Other event rental sites:
There are a number of other places to look for a generic space to rent. Depending on the size of your event, one of these websites could reveal a great opportunity.
City or State Government or Tourism Websites
Search Google for [City].gov or visit[city].com — and then search around on the site for event rental information. Here you’ll find rental information for outdoor spaces like parks, picnic spaces, open spaces, city golf courses, historic sites, ball fields, and more.
Search Terms to Find Your Unique Wedding Venue
Use these search terms to expose some places you haven’t thought about:
- “private homes for weddings” or “private homes for events”
- “private land for weddings”
- “event rentals” or "event spaces"
- “wedding photographer”—scour their social media and their website to see if any locations look interesting and reach out to find out where it is. Pro tip: if you resonate with your style you may have just found your photographer, too.
Remember, Google is always going to serve up local results so if you’re doing a destination wedding you need to specify the location in the search (ie, Colorado wedding photographer).
