If you’re looking for something a little more non-traditional, an Airbnb or VRBO might be a perfect fit. Choosing an Airbnb or VRBO wedding venue is a great way to save money and get a venue no matter where you’re getting married. We rented a VRBO for our wedding venue and it was amazing (and it’s my favorite way to have a backyard wedding even if your backyard isn't ideal). We were able to have the space for the whole week and not only did we use it for the ceremony and reception, but it also served as lodging for us and 5 of our friends, and gave us a place to gather with all of our guests every night that week.
It’s worth noting that I include VRBOs because they’re much more lenient on events. Airbnbs are perfect for really small weddings and elopements, but just know that in almost every case your guest list cannot exceed the capacity of the house. Even if you find a property that fits your guest list, you must get approval from the host – not everyone is comfortable with weddings on property. I use the term “Airbnb wedding” throughout the website because it’s just how people refer to private home rentals these days!

I think Airbnbs are perfect for elopements because they’re generally open to allowing “parties” as long as the guest count doesn’t exceed the home’s capacity. You can occasionally use an Airbnb as a wedding venue for larger events, but you really have to search for them. Airbnb wedding venues are best for really tiny weddings or private elopements. They also make great honeymoon spots or lodging for out-of-town guests.
